Millions impacted by excessive rain and flash flooding
Millions of people along the I-95 corridor from Massachusetts to Delaware are affected by severe flash flooding caused by torrential rains. Roads in several areas, particularly in Massachusetts and Westport, Connecticut, have become nearly impassable, leading to abandoned vehicles and numerous high-water rescues. Some residents in areas like Paramus, New Jersey, and Paterson, New Jersey, were also rescued from dangerous conditions.
The excessive rainfall has disrupted transportation and daily life for millions in the densely populated Northeast, highlighting the vulnerability of infrastructure to extreme weather events.
A fast-moving wildfire northwest of Sacramento, California, has scorched over 4,000 acres and prompted mandatory evacuations. Separately, a severe storm system in South Carolina caused a delay in a college football game due to lightning. Meteorologists are also tracking additional flash flood threats in the upper Midwest and extreme heat in the South.
