Fisherman forms rare bond with local dolphins
A fisherman in Crystal River, Florida, has formed a unique partnership with a pod of bottlenose dolphins, a behavior never before recorded in the United States. For years, these dolphins, including one named Crystal, have helped the fisherman, Captain Justin Diamond, herd fish into shallower waters, aiding in their own feeding and providing him with easier catches. The dolphins also appear to use his boat for protection from sharks.
Understanding this unprecedented human-dolphin cooperation could lead to better survival and thriving rates for dolphin populations in the future.
