Today's oil price is still wrong and too low, says Amos Hochstein
Amos Hochstein, managing partner at TWG Global and former Biden White House senior advisor, stated that current oil prices are too low, failing to reflect market realities. He argued that the market has disregarded dwindling reserves and the volatile geopolitical situation, particularly the impact of the Iran war and the closure of Saudi Arabia's East-West pipeline. Hochstein noted that while WTI is trading around $103 and Brent at $108, the actual physical market prices for barrels are significantly higher, between $120 and $150.
Hochstein's assessment suggests that consumers and the global economy are likely to face much higher energy costs than current paper oil prices indicate, with potential implications for inflation and economic stability.
The discussion also touched upon the rising price of diesel and gasoline, the effectiveness of US military reporting on Middle Eastern oil flows, and the strategic impact of Ukrainian attacks on Russian refineries.
