Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei stated that the artificial intelligence industry should pause its rapid development to allow safety measures to catch up. He warned that without such a slowdown, AI could within six to 12 months control a swarm of agents capable of taking over the internet. Amodei also proposed increased industry oversight, a measure Anthropic is already implementing, and noted support from OpenAI's Sam Altman and Elon Musk.

WHY IT MATTERS

This call for a slowdown addresses significant concerns about the potential existential risks posed by rapidly advancing AI, aiming to prevent uncontrolled AI development that could have far-reaching global consequences.
