Oil Supply Risks Rise After Saudi Pipeline Attack
Saudi Arabia has temporarily shut its East-West Pipeline, a critical artery for moving crude oil to the Red Sea, following multiple attacks. This precautionary measure by Saudi Arabia, aimed at bypassing potential disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, could further tighten global energy supplies and increase pressure on oil and US diesel prices, according to Bloomberg Economics' Ziad Daoud.
The closure of this pipeline, which can export up to 5 million barrels of oil daily or about 5% of global supplies, highlights the vulnerability of alternative energy routes to attacks and could lead to significant shortages in the global energy market if repairs are extensive.
The episode also discusses the BRICS summit in India, China's return to oil markets, and policy options for US diesel prices.
