TSA considers liquid rule change for some travelers

09 SEP 2026 · 10:00 ET·1:31·47.1K VIEWS·6.0× USUAL PACE

The TSA is considering a rule change that would allow TSA PreCheck members to bring bottles of water through security checkpoints. This potential change is linked to the introduction of new security lanes next week, which will feature e-gates with facial comparison technology and 3D scanners capable of detecting liquids in bottles. The agency is also exploring gateside programs to allow ticketless individuals to accompany or greet passengers at the gate, a service not available since before 9/11.

WHY IT MATTERS

This proposed change could significantly improve the travel experience for millions of TSA PreCheck members by eliminating a common frustration at airport security.
