Meta reaches landmark settlement
Meta has reached a landmark settlement with 48 states, agreeing to pay up to $17 billion over ten years to resolve a major social media addiction trial. The agreement includes product changes such as a two-hour daily time limit for teens, default nighttime restrictions, muted notifications during school hours, and hidden likes. Meta will also implement new age verification measures to remove users under 13 and identify accounts of users under 17.
The settlement aims to implement real changes and enforceable protections for children on Meta's platforms, addressing concerns about social media addiction and its impact on young users.
